The Raven's Standard Progressive Matrices (Raven) measures visual perceptual skills and the ability to form perceptual relationships. It measures a student’s ability to reason by analogy, which helps students to understand new material more readily. It also measures a student’s ability to make sense out of complex data. The test was designed to be independent of language, culture, or formal school experience. Order the Raven. |
Grade three students will be administered the Raven's Standard Progressive Matrices (Raven) during one of two district specified weeks to screen for formal testing for the Extended Learning Program. For students receiving a score of 99 there will automatically be a permission to test form sent home for formal testing. Parents or classroom teachers may request testing for students who received scores lower than 99. In either situation, written parent permission will have to be obtained before further testing can take place. |
Grades four through
eight may be administered the the Raven in order to gather more cognitive information for the review process, but it may not be used directly in determining eligibility for the Extended Learning Program. |
Ordering for the Raven will be done by the district for purposes of third grade screening. |
